Chapter 4 of the Golden Light Sutra is dedicated to confession and purification. It focuses on purifying the negative karma accumulated over countless eons, dispelling the ignorance that obscures the world, and cultivating fearless, boundless compassion for all beings.

Chapter 5 is not present in the shorter 21 chapter version of the GL sutra.   It continues with the theme of confession and purification and speaks to the importance of reciting this sutra to bring an end to obscurations of karma.  The Buddha speaks about the benefits to a king, benefits to his ministers, to mendicants, and Brahmins that result from this sutra being taught in their land. It also speaks to the dharma lasting in this world only as long as this sutra does, thereby encouraging reading and practice.
