Traditionally, the Dharma was taught in such a way that the student first learned to reason logically and then used this ability to reflect on the teachings of the Buddha. This system ensured the survival of the Dharma for centuries in India and Tibet.
Reflection is one of the three wisdoms in Mahayana Buddhism (listening, reflecting, meditating) and is essential for gaining deeper insight in analytical meditation.
The Longku Center will launch a new series of courses, seminars, and lectures with highly qualified speakers who will teach logic, reasoning, and debating. We would like to give interested students the opportunity to learn this valuable technique of critical analysis.
On this first weekend, Dr. Atisha Mathur will give us an introduction to the method of argumentation and the topics used by Buddhist masters to gain conviction in the teachings of the Buddha. We will briefly discuss the system of debate and see how it was applied to central Buddhist ideas such as the Four Noble Truths.
Dr. Atisha Mathur is a highly renowned expert on Buddhist philosophy and a close disciple of H.E. Serkong Rinpoche. We are very honored and fortunate to have him give an introduction to these topics at our center. This is a very unique opportunity, as Dr. Atisha Mathur normally lives in India.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama advises us to be 21st-century Dharma practitioners and to base our practice on critical analysis rather than blind faith. The Longku Center thus follows His Holiness the Dalai Lama, but also the advice of His Eminence Serkong Tsenshap Rinpoche, who will be at our side with advice and support.
